Sri Lankan Adventure with Uga Escapes

Explore the beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka on this exciting itinerary that heroes Uga Escapes, a leading luxury hotel operator with breathtaking properties dotted throughout the country. Begin in the capital city of Colombo before travelling on to the cultural triangle, high up into the tea country and then descend down to Yala National Park to try and spot the elusive leopard before finishing your journey with a beach stay on the west coast.

place DAYS 1 - 2 - Colombo

Colombo

Arrive into the city of Colombo and transfer to Uga Residence, this boutique, urban retreat provides a calming sanctuary in the city. Spend the day relaxing or chose to enjoy some shopping or sightseeing. The following day take a tour of Colombo city. visiting Wolvendaal Church, an important Dutch Colonial era building, various temples, both Buddhist and Hindu and finish the day with a stop at Checkers Terrace for high tea with a view of the sunset. 

place DAY 3 - Colombo to Anuradhapura

Colombo to Anuradhapura

After enjoying breakfast in Colombo depart for the four hour car journey to Anuradhapura. Once checked-in at Uga Ulagalla, home for the next three nights, you will take an afternoon safari to Wilpattu wildlife sanctuary. Well known for seeking out Sri Lankan wild leopard. Located in the northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka, Wilpattu is the largest and one of the oldest National Parks in Sri Lanka. 

place DAY 4 - Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura

Today take a sightseeing tour of the ancient ruined city of Anuradhapura, one of Sri Lanka's premier ancient cities and learn about the history of this once magnificent city and the birth of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. 

place DAY 5 - Sigiriya & Minneriya National Park

Sigiriya & Minneriya National Park

Travel today to Sigiriya rock fortress, one of Sri Lanka's most widely recognised historic sites and famous for its ancient paintings. You can choose to climb the rock which takes roughly an hour if you wish, it is recommended this is done in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is not at it's strongest. Visit Polonnaruwa, another of the countries ancient cities and one of the best planned archaeological relic sites. In the afternoon take a visit to Minneriya wildlife sanctuary which is famous for having the opportunity to spot Sri Lankan elephant in their natural habitat. 

place DAYS 6 - 7 - Kandy

Kandy

Travel to Kandy today, stopping on-route to visit the Dambulla Cave Temples - the largest and best preserved rock cave complex in Sri Lanka. On arrival in Kandy you may chose to visit the Temple of the Tooth and the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens. The following day visit Udawattakele Forest, a historic forest reserve containing a wide variety of flora and fauna. 

place DAYS 8 - 9 - Hatton

Hatton

Transfer to Hatton, Sri Lanka's beautiful tea growing region. During the drive you can stop at a working tea factory and estate before arriving at Ceylon Tea Trails for a two night stay. The breathtaking backdrop of this luxury property lends itself perfectly to relaxing in the ground sor exploring the surrounding area by foot or bicycle. The stay is fully inclusive of all meals including afternoon tear and all beverages including select spirits and wines. There is no menu restrictions at Ceylon Tea Trails, instead choose whatever you wish and to eat and the impressive kitchen team will happily oblige. 

place DAY 10 - Hatton to Yala

Hatton to Yala

Travel by car from Hatton to Yala. Check into Uga Chena Huts for a three night stay. Once settled, depart for an afternoon jeep safari into Yala National Park. The second largest national park in Sri Lanka, Yala has one of the highest leopard densities in the world. 

place DAYS 11 - 12 - Yala

Yala

Morning and afternoon game drives take place at 6am and 3pm. You will meet with your trekker and driver who will take you on a 2.5 to 3 hour drive in the dry, semi-arid park which hosts a variety of eco-systems ranging from monsoon forests to freshwater and marine wetlands. 

place DAYS 13 - 15 - Galle

Galle

Travel from Yala to Galle for the final stop on your journey around Sri Lanka. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Galle town and the fort which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and brimming with luxurious villas and boutique hotels side by side with restaurants, cafes, antique and fabric shops. Relax and unwind within your hotel and on the beaches of Galle before departing Sri Lanka for your journey home.
