Make friends with mischievous monkeys, watch orangutans eat their breakfast, and witness the wonder of the little-known Sun bear. Trek through lush, green jungles, cruise along rainforest rivers, shower in sparkling waterfalls and search for elephants and gibbons in their natural habitats. Enjoy the unique cacophony of jungle wildlife as you explore and enjoy mother nature at her very best.

place DAY 1 - Arrive - Kuala Lumpur

Arrive - Kuala Lumpur

Take a transfer to the hotel where you can enjoy spectacular views of the iconic Petronas Towers.

place DAY 2 - Kuala Lumpur - Sandakan

Kuala Lumpur - Sandakan

Take a short flight and travel to Sandakan Memorial Park. Learn about Sabah’s fascinating role in WWII. Stroll through the landscaped park before transferring to Sepilok, where you can check-in and relax.

place DAY 3 - Sepilok

Sepilok

Get back to nature with a trip to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to witness the morning feeding session. Then head to Sun Bear Conservation Centre which houses a little-known bear species named after the ‘rising sun’ shape fur on its chest.  

place DAY 4 - Sepilok - Kinabatangan River

Sepilok - Kinabatangan River

Take a land and boat transfer to Kinabatangan River. Arrive at the lodge and enjoy lunch.  Enjoy a riverboat cruise, searching for wildlife, including proboscis monkeys, which are predominant in Borneo. Search for elephants, hornbills and gibbons before returning to the hotel for dinner.

Rise early for an unforgettable river cruise to Kelenanap Oxbow Lake. The crescent-shaped lake provides a haven for animals and plants. Visit the local fishing village, Kampung Abai, and meet with Orang Sungai – the local river people. Relax before heading out in the late afternoon - the best time to observe primate species. Then, tuck in to a hearty dinner before an unforgettable night river safari.

place DAY 6 - Kinabatangan - Tabin Wildlife Reserve

Take an early transfer by both boat and land to Lahad Datu, where you will check into a charming, wooden cottage. Later, enjoy a short trek through the jungle to Tabin’s mineral-rich, mud volcano.

Discover some of Tabin’s 300-strong bird species, stopping off at the Birdwatching Tower. Continue trekking through the lush rainforest to Lipad Waterfall, where you can take a dip or enjoy a refreshing shower beneath the waterfall. On the way back, pause by the Tabin Giant Tree for a photo opportunity, then try a rainforest foot soak, perfect for reviving aching muscles after a jungle trek.  In the evening, take a dusk drive and explore nocturnal wildlife and birds.

place DAY 8 - Tabin Wildlife Reserve - Danum Valley

Tabin Wildlife Reserve - Danum Valley

Take an overland transfer into the thick, virgin rainforest area of Danum Valley - one of the world’s most complex ecosystems.  Check-in to the lodge, then enjoy a jungle canopy walk, high up in the 130-million-year-old rainforest. After dinner, board an open-top vehicle for a night-time nature tour. Search by torchlight for nocturnal animals, from samba deer to civet cats and leopards.

place DAY 9 - Danum Valley

Wake to the morning chorus and a jungle cacophony of sounds, from birds to gibbons. Travel to a 200-year-old Kadazandusun Burial Site, known as ‘Coffin Cliff’. Situated along a viewpoint trail and offering spectacular views over the million-year-old jungle. Afterwards, explore nearby waterfalls before returning to the lodge for lunch. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring local trails.  In the evening, accompanied by a local guide, venture into the jungle to witness a stunning array of wildlife as it comes alive during the evening hours. 

place DAY 10 - Danum Valley - Gaya Island

Leave the rainforest behind and take a flight to Kota Kinabalu, before catching a boat transfer to Bungaraya Island Resort. 

place DAYS 11 - 14 - Gaya Island

Gaya Island

Spend the remaining few days relaxing in the tropical paradise of Bungaraya Island Resort. This eco-friendly property is surrounded by lush rainforest and overlooks the azure waters of the South China Sea. Enjoy water sports, explore the island, or simply embrace the tranquillity of your surroundings.
