If time allows, embark on a half or full-day boat trip to the Great Barrier Reef, where you can snorkel or dive in one of the world’s most vibrant underwater ecosystems. For those who prefer to stay on land, join a tour of the ancient Daintree Rainforest with an Indigenous guide, learning about the Aboriginal people’s deep connection to the natural world.

Cairns – Airlie Beach

Pick up your campervan and begin the scenic coastal drive to Airlie Beach, passing tropical rainforests, sugarcane fields, and sparkling beaches along the Pacific Coast. Consider a stop in Townsville to visit Ethel Creek Falls, a hidden gem offering serene views and lush surroundings. Further along, take a break at Mission Beach to unwind on palm-fringed sands. As you approach Airlie Beach the scenery shifts to the vibrant Whitsundays. Once in Airlie Beach, relax by the lagoon or take a day trip to the islands, including a must-see visit to the iconic Whitehaven Beach.

Along the way, stop at roadside stalls for fresh local produce or take a detour to explore hidden beaches. As you approach Bundaberg, you’ll notice the rich agricultural landscape. In town, visit the Bundaberg Rum Distillery for a tour and tasting or explore the Mon Repos turtle conservation centre and the Mon Repos Beach. Rainbow Beach is famous for its colourful sands and proximity to K’gari (Fraser Island), a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enjoy outdoor activities like 4WD beach driving, surfing, kayaking, or horseback riding. Visit Carlo Sand Blow - part of the huge accumulation of windblown sand known as the Cooloola sandmass for panoramic views or take a day trip to Fraser Island to see Lake McKenzie, 75 Mile Beach, and the Champagne Pools.
