Despite an infamous past, Hiroshima has risen once more to prove its status as a vibrant city, with historically important structures, serene parks, and a bustling shopping and dining scene. Picturesque islands such as UNESCO recognised Miyajima add a different dimension, and are easily accessible, just an hour away. That’s not to say the events of 1945 have been forgotten, far from it, with significant areas transformed into popular places of peace and reflection.
